What is the difference between ABBYY Aligner 2.0 and CAT-tools or Translation Memory systems?

The difference between ABBYY Aligner 2.0 and computer aided translation (CAT) tools is in their purposes.

CAT tools and Translation Memory systems allow executing TM base search, finding repeated segments in new texts and replacing them with translations taken from previously translated texts. The larger the volume of TM base, the faster and easier the work of translator becomes. Some CAT-tools include instruments for alignment, but generally they are inconvenient and have low quality of alignment, making mistakes while juxtaposing fragments of texts. That is why parallel text processing becomes an effortful task while using CAT-tools for alignment.

ABBYY Aligner 2.0 is a tool specially developed for fast and comfortable work with parallel texts which enables quick and easy creating of Translation Memory databases.
