Epson bundles ABBYY FineReader OCR software into new scanners and all-in-one devices.
ABBYY USA, member of the ABBYY group, a leader in document recognition and linguistic technologies, and Epson America, Inc., a leading provider of image capture and image output products, announced a new strategic bundling agreement. Under the first-time relationship, Epson will bundle ABBYY FineReader® 5.0 Sprint , an optical character recognition (OCR) software for both Windows and Macintosh, into its new scanners and all-in-one devices. The EPSON Perfection® 3170 PHOTO and the EPSON Perfection® 1670 PHOTO scanners along with the EPSON Stylus CX5400, the EPSON Stylus CX6400 and the EPSON Stylus Photo RX500 all offer an incredible combination of image quality, versatility and innovative photo restoration software for under $249. FineReader OCR software broadens these capabilities by enabling users to repurpose paper documents and electronic images, converting them into editable text.
“We wanted to provide our customers with one of the most accurate OCR programs, which is why we chose ABBYY FineReader in our newest scanners and all-in-ones,” said Grace Huang, assistant product manager, consumer scanners, Epson. “By offering FineReader in our software packages, we’ve rounded out a complete solution from image manipulation to document management for our home and office audience.”
FineReader Sprint is incorporated into Epson’s Smart Panel™ software, which is a comprehensive program that fully integrates all functions of the scanner and all-in-one devices into one convenient interface. Users can simply click “Edit Text” on the Smart Panel interface to start the OCR process. FineReader will automatically scan using FineReader Sprint’s OCR functionality to process the document and then send the OCR results to selected applications such as Word or Excel. Users can also run FineReader Sprint as a standalone application.
“Epson’s scanning solutions are well designed so users can take advantage of our powerful FineReader OCR solution,” said Joe Budelli, vice president of business development at ABBYY USA. “Our approach is to offer the most advanced OCR technology available to our OEM partners, giving their customers more accurate OCR results and a better overall experience.”
